We look forward to welcoming you on this afternoon.

Operation Christmas Child

Thank you St. Peter's for your generous donations to Operation Christmas Child!

Our Year 6 Exhibition group was so amazed at the huge response in such a short space of time.

We are so glad that so many children will receive a box of gifts to show them that we love them and God loves them too!

Year 6 Exhibition

Our Year 6 students are studying 'Consumption of fossil fuel and its effect on the environment' for Exhibition.

Year 6 would like to share their flyers with our School Community explaining how we can contribute to minimising emissions from fossil fuels. These flyers are to help inform parents about their job and what they can do in their own households. This would seriously help to decrease our emmisions in this area.

Year 6 Exhibition Evening

Last Thursday night the 31st October, St. Peter's held our second PYP Exhibition. The exhibition is the culmination of the student's journey through the PYP. During Exhibition, students carried out an extended, in-depth, collaborative project. This involves students working collaboratively to conduct an in-depth inquiry into real-life issues or problems. This year students inquired into issues around the transdisciplinary theme of 'Sharing planet'. Some issues were Drought, Carbon Footprint, Population Density, Human Rights in particular Women in sport, Mental Health and many more. The students were encouraged to think about what action they could do as a result this learning.

It was exciting to see what the students learned through this time, however, it was more exciting helping them learn the skills that are needed for Exhibition and how this will help them in everyday life. Students shared on Thursday night how they learnt the value of teamwork, communication, research, and evaluation skills, planning and loads of other skills that will help them be effective learners now and into the future.

Well done Year 6 you smashed it!

Prep Story and Play

Our Prep Story and Play sessions have provided our 2020 Prep children with a delightful introduction to our school and Prep programmes. Each session offered a relaxed and enjoyable play experience to support our youngest learners in familiarising themselves with their new school environment.

Our visitors were invited to come along with their families to the school library to explore a range of creative, sensory and constructive play options and to share a story and craft activity. Story and Play sessions have been a wonderful opportunity for children to meet new friends and to get a taste of the exciting things that 2020 has in store for them.

We have one remaining Prep Story and Play Session, which will be held on Monday, 11 November from 10:00 am in the school library.

ICAS 2019

We would like to commend all participants of ICAS throughout the year. We are incredibly proud of their efforts.

This year, we have noticed a larger delay in receiving the printed results and certificates from UNSW. We currently have only received information in regards to Digital Technologies, and more recently Science. Traditionally, we have formally recognised and awarded students who achieved a Credit score or higher at the Primary Assembly. This unfortunately may impact our opportunities to recognise students in a timely manner with only one remaining Primary Assembly this year. We understand that families may be keen to see their children's achievements, sooner rather than later. Due to this, we have decided to send home certificates and results as we receive them at school. We will still endeavour to make an opportunity in assemblies, where possible, to recognise our high achievers.

As per our normal processes in regards to celebrating awards at assemblies, an email notification will be sent to those families so you are aware if your child will be recognised, acknowledging that they will have already received their certificates in class.

Year 6 Exhibition

Last Thursday evening marked a significant milestone in the educational journey of our Year 6 students. In the final year of the Primary Years Programme (PYP), students participate in a learning experience known as Exhibition. They engage in a collaborative inquiry process that involves identifying, investigating and offering solutions to real life issues. The Exhibition process draws upon the attitudes, behaviours and skills students have developed over their entire schooling experience.

Students chose issues for exploration under the theme of 'Sharing the Planet' and inquired into the central idea ‘Behaviour Sustains or Depletes Resources.’ The Exhibition process started some weeks ago as students commenced brainstorming issues that impact our world. Some areas of study included pollution, population density, water wastage, drought, animal extinction and poverty. Under the watchful eye of their teacher mentors, Year 6 undertook research, conducted surveys, read news reports, emailed professionals and interviewed experts to build upon their understanding.

A significant aspect of Exhibition is for students to take action as a result of their learning and to create awareness about their chosen issue. We are incredibly proud of the many student driven initiatives that have arisen from Exhibition. Examples of these include donations of gift packages to the ‘Operation Christmas Child’ campaign to bring joy to children around the world living in developing nations. Furthermore, to reduce the level of waste produced across our community, a group of students established a ‘Nude Food’ promotion to encourage their peers to consciously reduce the amount of plastic wrapping within their lunch boxes. These are just two examples of effective actions taken by our students to create positive change and challenge the status quo.

At St. Peter’s we aspire to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who seek to be compassionate and lifelong learners. What a great privilege it has been to see the process of Exhibition unfold and to witness this goal coming to life.

Congratulations to our Year 6 teachers and students for a wonderful demonstration of your hard work and dedication.

Staffing Update

Farewell Mr Richards

We congratulate Mr Richards following his appointment as the Assistant Chaplain at Thomas Hassall from the commencement of 2020.

Mr Richards has been an excellent member of our team, however, has been torn on the preference for teaching and chaplaincy. Mr Richards has recognised his passion for chaplaincy is where his heart lies.

Farewell Mr Fortescue

Some may have heard the recently announced news that Mr Fortescue has accepted the Archbishops invitation to become the new Senior Minister at Christ Church, St Ives from the beginning of 2020. This means that he will be leaving Campbelltown and St. Peter's.

Nigel has been a faithful part of our Chaplaincy Team here at St. Peter's for almost 10 years, as well as an active part of the St. Peter's Schools' Council, and served much of that time as Chairman.

We wish Nigel, Nicky and his family (all former students of St. Peter's) well in the next chapter of their ministry.

Welcome Possums

As announced recently, we are excited to welcome our new Prep Possums at the commencement of 2020. Our Possums will be our 5 day Prep class and as such there are limited vacancies available in all Prep classes for next year.

Please contact the Office or enrol@stpeters.nsw.edu.au if you'd like to find out more.
