Harmony Day

Mrs Michelle McDonnell - Principal

Harmony Day at St Peter’s was a wonderful celebration of the many cultures that make up our school community. Students and staff came together to appreciate the beauty of cultural diversity through a range of meaningful activities.

The day began with a Harmony Day Assembly, where students watched a short video, shared reflections on the significance of the day, and enjoyed cultural performances, including dances and musical items. It was wonderful to see our students proudly sharing their heritage and talents with the school.  We followed this with a variety of classroom activities designed to celebrate the many cultures that make up our amazing school community.

As a Christian school, we recognise that God has created each person in His image and calls us to love and value one another. Our school motto, Life through Christ, reminds us that true harmony is found in Jesus, who unites all people. Harmony Day at St Peter’s was not just about celebrating culture but about reflecting God’s love in the way we respect and appreciate one another.

It was a joyful day of learning, sharing, and celebrating the wonderful community that makes St Peter’s so special!

Parent Education Session

In our last newsletter, I wrote about the importance of partnership between home and school in supporting our student’s learning.  As a school we want to ensure that parents and carers are aware of the teaching and learning that is happening in our classrooms and we encourage feedback regarding this.  I am at the gate most mornings and love families speaking to me on these occasions.

On Tuesday, 25 March Mrs Jamie Nielson (Head of Teaching and Learning) and I are looking forward to sharing with you about teaching and learning at St Peter's as we continue to implement new syllabus documents across the school.  Further information and links to book for these sessions can be found in Mrs Nielson's section of the newsletter.

Road Safety

It has been exciting to see the new “Children Crossing” flags at the crossing on Howe St, encouraging both school families and the general public to drive safely around our school and be aware of students coming and going from school.

We continue to have occasional situations of students being let out of cars prior to the drop off bay, and families walking across the driveway amongst the traffic.  We ask that all families work with us to ensure the safety of our students.

Life @ St Peter's

Mrs Nerida Hadfield - Deputy Principal

The last two weeks have truly flown by and it is hard to believe we are heading into Week 9 next week. There has been a buzz around the school as students have been learning through inquiries and engaging lessons.

Buddy Groups

This week our focus for Buddy Groups was around “Be Kind”. Students made Kindness Hands with examples of HOW to show kindness to others.

Students were reminded of the reasons to show kindness -

  • Kindness reflects God’s love – The Bible teaches us to be kind because God is kind to us.

  • Kindness makes the world better – Small acts of kindness can bring joy, comfort, and encouragement to others.

  • Kindness creates strong friendships – Being kind helps build trust and good relationships with others.

  • Kindness comes back to us – When we are kind, others are more likely to be kind in return (Luke 6:31).

Student Leadership - Dream and Lead Conference

Congratulations to our student leaders!

Last Thursday our Captains and Prefects attended this Leadership Conference at the ICC in Darling Harbour. This conference supported our students in discovering their leadership potential and provided them with strong foundations to succeed. The students engaged in activities to develop their problem-solving skills, to increase confidence and independence. We know our student leaders can have a significant impact on the lives of others as they show care and initiative throughout their lives.

Mrs Ryder attended the day along with Mr Calnan and she expressed the following to me:-

We have amazing Prefects and they stood out at this conference. Our students were engaged, respectful and made the most of the opportunity. Our Captains, Evie and Oliver were courageous and provided public input in front of all other schools, spoke well and displayed fantastic St Peter's values. Even one of the speakers from last year thought Oliver "Nailed it". Evie's contribution was at the beginning of the day when asked what three values she thinks of when describing a leader. Her thoughts were respectful, responsible and independent. When asked if she could identify anyone she regards as a leader that displays these qualities, she responded without hesitation "Our teachers". I think that is high praise for all our teachers.

Reflections from our School Captains

At the Leadership Conference we grasped the skill of how to lead our peers by using strategies that develop our own personal growth; we also learned when it was our time to take actions in everyday situations. I learnt that being a leader doesn't always mean giving people a direct path but to have the ability to be open to listen.

Evie C

The Leadership Conference showed us opportunities to grow and become a staggering leader. We learned that age can't be a barrier to achieve dreams and how to prosper and grow into being an advanced leader. They also taught us to make connections with people from school to school, with a connecting 'Bingo'. They taught lessons in enjoyable ways by playing games but still taught us at the same time. I loved Leadership Day and learning how to be an outstanding leader.

Oliver C

Harmony Day

Today we had a sea of colour and culture for our Harmony Day celebrations. Students were encouraged to wear something orange or their cultural dress to display unity, connection and appreciation of our culturally rich community. Students were entertained through our showcase, witnessing a variety of cultural performances. They also spent time during the day engaging in activities to promote Harmony. This was a wonderful day of connection, understanding, and celebration of the beautifully diverse community God has made St Peter's to be.

ANZAC Day March

On Friday, 25 April, ANZAC Day, St Peter's staff and students have been invited to participate with other schools, community members and RSL Veterans in the ANZAC Day March along Queen Street, Campbelltown. The March will conclude with a wreath laying ceremony at Mawson Park in respect of all who have given their lives in defence of this great country.

It would be wonderful to have many of our students present to mark this significant day. If you are able to attend, students should wear full school uniform including their walking hat. We will assemble near Campbelltown Mall, on the corner of Queen and Allman Streets at 8.00am to secure our place for an 8.25am start to the march.

Please report to Mrs Hadfield, who will be present on the morning.

Our school Anzac Assembly will be held in the School Hall on our first day of Term 2. Parents are welcome to attend this service.

Harmony

Miss Leanne Burns - School Chaplain

Today we celebrated Harmony Day at school with a deep desire that harmony continues to be fostered and expressed everyday in our School Community. I love being part of a school that is made up of children and families from many different parts of the world, bringing cultural richness to our school community.

The Bible teaches us in Genesis chapter 1 verse 26 & 27 that every human being is made in the image of God and therefore has value and worth. We are made to know and love God, to love and care for one another and to look after this amazing world in which we live.

Sadly, when human beings made the decision to trust the word of a creature rather than their Creator, and disobeyed God’s good command, the human heart became twisted. Greed, jealousy, bitterness, discontentment, hatred, pride and selfishness resides in each of us which leads to conflict and harm, unkind words and unkind actions.

Thankfully, God sent his Son, the Lord Jesus, to deal with our rebellion. Jesus did this by His death and resurrection. Jesus came to show us how to know and love our Creator and each other. Jesus came to renew our hearts, to replace hatred with love, selfishness with kindness, greed with generosity, pride with humility so that we would live in harmony with our God and each other.

The last book of the Bible is a vision of the future when Jesus (the Lamb of God) returns and His followers, from every nation, acknowledge that Jesus is Lord of all.

Revelation 7:9-10

9 After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. 10 And they cried out in a loud voice:

“Salvation belongs to our God,
who sits on the throne,
and to the Lamb.”

If you would like to find out more about the life Jesus offers, why not come along to Campbelltown Anglican Church over Easter. Also you can contact me; I am happy to meet up and talk more about the Jesus of the Bible.

Year 3 Students Shine in Their First NAPLAN

Miss Kym Busutel - Coordinator of St Peter's Heart

These past two weeks were a significant milestone for our Year 3 students as they took part in their very first NAPLAN assessments. Over three days, they tackled a series of literacy and numeracy tests with determination and enthusiasm.

We couldn’t be prouder of the way our Year 3s approached this challenge. They displayed remarkable focus, upheld a respectful testing environment and showed resilience when faced with difficult questions. Their dedication and perseverance were truly commendable.

Beyond their hard work, their positive attitudes made all the difference. We hope they take a moment to celebrate their efforts and feel proud of their achievements. NAPLAN is just one step in their learning journey and we hope they will continue to grow and thrive.

Well done, Year 3! You should be incredibly proud of yourselves.

World Autism Awareness Day

I am excited to see the staff and students of St Peter’s Grammar and St Peter’s Heart come together for World Autism Awareness Day, (Wednesday, 2 April) embracing the opportunity to deepen our understanding of Autism. On this day students can wear blue accessories like ribbons, bracelets, necklaces and socks with their sport uniform to celebrate the day. I can’t wait to see a sea of blue as we stand side by side, wearing blue accessories, in support of awareness, acceptance and inclusion for individuals with Autism.
